The paper illustrates the elaborations carried out during the drafting of the PTC of the Province of Lucca as regards the classification of the open space as territorial strategy to contain the land consumption and the widespread abandonment. In particular, we present a cartographic elaboration starting from a model of multidimensional assessment of the ecosystem services it provides peri-urban agriculture (production function, a protective function, a recreational and cultural). The cartography shows the spatial distribution the specific characters and of the absolute value of these services. The results of processing have been used within the PTC as an effective tool to support the spatialization of policies for the valorisation of ecosystem services in rural areas (policies for supporting the local food production, policies that improve biodiversity, enhancement policies of social farming).
