The materials have been put together to form the basis of an English course attended by undergraduate students studying at the Faculty of Political Science in Pisa. The course is about written English, and focuses on reading English texts, rather than writing in English. The general aims of the course may be summarized as follows: (1) to raise awareness of how individual written texts differ from, or are similar to, one another. (2) to help students become better readers of English, especially in relation to their university studies and future careers. (3) to make students more interested in reading in English. (4) to show how one can learn about the English language while reading in English.
