In this article I summarize the methodology of an English course designed to help students improve their ability to write scientific texts in English. The principle characteristics of the course, which was taught at Pisa University’s Language Centre, are: (1) the planning of the course on the basis of actual student needs as judged by a pre-course test; (2) the pedagogical choices made to respond in the most suitable way to the errors which students typically made.
