The elastic behavior of the laser host crystal BaY2F8 doped with Tm and Dy has been investigated in the temperature range 288-308 K by using the ultrasonic pulse echo-overlap technique. Twelve propagation modes have been examined, which allowed the determination of 10 of the 13 independent elastic stiffness tensor components C-ij characterizing the monoclinic crystal lattice of BaY2F8. All the elastic constants associated with the examined propagation modes exhibit normal temperature dependence that is they increase with decreasing T.
