This paper analyses some perspective and thoughts of western travelers, specially European, on 'orientalist' in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its purpose is to shed new light on the role played by travel writing in forging public opinion and on its ability to influence our knowledge on some aesthetic and cultural aspects of the eastern world.
