The University of Pisa participated to TREC 2002's QAtrack with PiQASso, a vertical QA system developed(except for some of the linguistic tools), entirely withinour research group at the Computer Science department.The system features alter-and-loop architecture in whichnon-promising paragraphs are ruled out basing on featuresranging from keyword matching to complex semanticrelation matching. The system also exploits the Webin order to get \hints" at what to look for in the internal collection.
