Application of CT scan and 3D reconstruction to archaeological research revealed very interesting aspects: identification, reconstruction and replica of metallic objects were possible, with important consequences for future research. For example, imaging elaboration allows to reconstruct degraded and unidentifiable objects, and the print in plastic material permits to handle the objects for study and in museum displays and exhibitions, without having to excavate the urns. In several cases, CT images represent the only documentation of the presence of mineralized metal objects, sometimes impossible to distinguish and lost during the excavation. This first experience of “virtual archaeology” will certainly become a real prototype for future studies.
