Abstract

Seveso-II Directive requires consideration in the plant inventory of the dangerous substances “which it is believed may be generated in the loss of control of an industrial chemical process”. The present contribution was dedicated to the development of integrated experimental strategies for the analysis of the decomposition kinetics and thermal degradation products. Different calorimetric techniques were applied to the decomposition of ethyl diazoacetate (EDA). In particular a differential scanning calorimeter, equipped with an airtight cell working under high pressure conditions, was used to minimize the EDA evaporation. The results allowed the evaluation of the thermodynamic and kinetic effects of the decomposition process.
