This paper aims to show the main results of a research for the valorization of the Malaspina Fortress in Massa, Tuscany. The study started with a historical analysis, supported by archeological and stratigraphic studies. The hypothesis of valorization has been based on the architectural restoration and recovery of the complex by mean of an organic and systematic set of works aimed at improving its fruition and accessibility. The proposal introduced also new activities inside the fortress, adapting its abandoned spaces, and realized a more suitable location for the existing ones, in order to make the fortress an important resource for the development of the territory.
