The purpose of the study was to demonstrate and quantify the volumetric changes of the aneurysmal sac after endoluminal repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms. A series of 26 patients that underwent endovascular repair was imaged with CT angiography (CTA) at 1,3,6 and 12 months after treatment. CTA data sets were then processed with a dedicated software for stereoscopic display of volume rendered data (Dextroscope; Volume Intercations/Bracco). A specific tool was used to co-register consecutive CT studies performed at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months from treatment. In a single volumetric dataset the overall CT studies were represented with different color coding. Volume variations of the aneurysmal sac were determined for each patient. In patients without endoleaks the average volume reduction was 2%, 5% and 10% of the initial aneurysmal volume at 3,6 and 12 months follow-up, respectively. In 2 patients without endoleaks an increase in volume was observed. In patients with endoleaks the mean reduction of the volume was null. Volume reduction, stabilization or increase was confirmed by the direct visualization of the co-registered 3D consecutive CTA datasets.
