In the present paper an efficient method for solvent suppression in Proton Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy is described. It is based on a filtering approach: a maximum-phase finite impulse response filter (FIR) is designed in order to completely suppress the solvent water, without altering the other metabolites signal. The present work includes: the study, implementation and analysis of the proposed method, applying it on both simulated and experimental data. The good performance and ease of use of the filtering operation, combined with its low computational complexity, motivate the use of the proposed method.

Abstract

In the present paper an efficient method for solvent suppression in Proton Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy is described. It is based on a filtering approach: a maximum-phase finite impulse response filter (FIR) is designed in order to completely suppress the solvent water, without altering the other metabolites signal. The present work includes: the study, implementation and analysis of the proposed method, applying it on both simulated and experimental data. The good performance and ease of use of the filtering operation, combined with its low computational complexity, motivate the use of the proposed method.
