Abstract

Stay vibration events have been reported all over the world on cable-stayed bridges. Cable vibrations cause bridge users discomfort and may also lead to bridge collapse. Aim of this study is to investigate relevant cable vibration phenomena directly induced by wind, such as buffet-shedding, dry inclined galloping and rain wind induced vibrations. The results are presented in terms of required necessary damping to control the dynamic stability of stays for a significant case study.
