Abstract

The fall of the Berlin wall and of the Soviet Union opened impressive perspectives for the research in nuclear technology in Europe. The European Commission launched a multi-Billion to cooperate with Russian (and former ‘satellite’ Countries) nuclear institution and to evaluate the safety and the safety margins of nuclear installations. The activity allowed the knowledge of the impressive (again!) knowledge gained by Russians in the nuclear technology during the period of the cold was. The activity of main interest deals with Nuclear Power Plants, namely VVER and RBMK reactors. University of Pisa was heavily involved with this research framework. The present document deals with the cooperation established (by UNIPI) with RISKAUDIT (French-German Institution – connected with government bodies in those Countries) to fix the technical terms of the cooperation between EC and Russian Federation (RF). The topic here is the boron dilution VVER type reactors (boron is also adopted in those reacor to control the burn-up / consumption of Uranium during the life of the core).
