Abstract

The University of Pisa participated in a number of activities organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In connection with the majority of those activities the UNIPI author had the opportunity to know the details of the operational conditions of current Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) and to comment on various aspects mostly connected with the safety and the safety planning in case of accidents. The mission at the Kozloduy Nuclear site in Bulgaria deals with the validation of the Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) including the transition from EOP to AMP (Accident Management Procedures). Both EOP and AMP are essential to prevent disastrous core melt scenarios (and have been effective for many years in this connection).
