In the contemporary scenario, with only early economic recovery markers and much uncertainty, an increasing attention is reserved for all the initiatives aimed at sustaining the development of new ventures. For example, in Italy the number of “certified” (qualified) incubators raised from 13 (2013) to 36 (2016) while in the same period the number of start-ups hosted by a certified incubator passed from 300 to 800. Despite the increasing popularity of “incubation”, its impact on startups development is still controversial. This mismatch is a stimulus for a deeper understanding of the role that other variables play in the incubation process. In particular, through the formalization of a conceptual model, we want to understand how the need for legitimacy affects the relationship between new ventures and their hosting incubators.

Abstract
In the contemporary scenario, with only early economic recovery markers and much uncertainty, an increasing attention is reserved for all the initiatives aimed at sustaining the development of new ventures. For example, in Italy the number of “certified” (qualified) incubators raised from 13 (2013) to 36 (2016) while in the same period the number of start-ups hosted by a certified incubator passed from 300 to 800. Despite the increasing popularity of “incubation”, its impact on startups development is still controversial. This mismatch is a stimulus for a deeper understanding of the role that other variables play in the incubation process. In particular, through the formalization of a conceptual model, we want to understand how the need for legitimacy affects the relationship between new ventures and their hosting incubators.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
