In the historic center of Massa, in Mercurio square, the recent discovery of a late-republican ceramic manufacture has provided a vast range of bricks destined for the colony of Luni and its territory. In particular, some special artifacts shed new light on the transmission of architectural models and technologies related to the colonization of ager Lunensis. In particular we note the production of terracotta bars with flanges for ribs of self-supporting vaults, which find a precise comparison with examples in the republican bath building at Fregellae. Terracotta conical elements were also produced; they were employed in the vaults of both the kilns and the baths: in different shapes and sizes, they are present along the Tyrrhenian coasts up to Spain.
