This paper examines the mosaics found in Luni in a domus built between the end of the 2nd and the beginning of the 1st century BC. In some rooms, undecorated cement pavements have been discovered, whereas in the atrium large portions of mosaic with inserts have been brought to light. This tessellated floor consisting of a semis of poised square crustae layed in an oblique pattern of black tesserae, is comparable with the decoration of the peristyle of the Casa del Salone Nero in Herculaneum. In the tablinum a geomet-ric black-and-white mosaic made of small and medium tesserae was uncovered. The decorative field, framed by a swastika-meander with a square in each space, shows a shield of particoloured scales in contrasting colours; in the corner there is a vine-scroll arising out of a vase, only partly preserved due to a lacuna.
