The article introduces some reflections on the heritage of female figurines from the Neolithic in Italy, also in relation to the Balkan artefacts. Starting from the available bibliographic sources, this article, an introduction to the geographical syntheses and new interpretations provided by those who participated to this volume, deals with the numeric difference between the Italian and Balkan heritages, and the formal variability in the Palaeolithic and Neolithic figurines. The analysis of the Neolithic figurines focused on the body signs and decorations, their context of provenance, the phenomena of intentional fragmentation, and generally their interpretation. The article also presents some Balkan cases, and especially the sites located at the Iron Gates, at the border between Serbia and Romania, such as the sites of Lepenski Vir, and Mavropigi-Fyllotsaïri, in Western Macedonia

Abstract
The article also presents some Balkan cases, and especially the sites located at the Iron Gates, at the border between Serbia and Romania, such as the sites of Lepenski Vir, and Mavropigi-Fyllotsaïri, in Western MacedoniaI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
