This article is a contribution to the study of the sources of the Povest’ strašna by Maximus the Greek. The Povest’, which was likely written between 1518 and 1525, gathers together two narratives: the first concerns the Kingdom of France and the second Florence. The present author’s investigations into the genesis of the second narrative led to the typology of its sources (direct, written, oral) and the identification of the sources of its descriptions of the Grande Chartreuse and the Carthusian rule, the first description being grounded in the author’s direct experience, and the second, additionally, in written sources. The investigation of the written sources of the second narrative can now be extended to include its report of the foundation of the Carthusian order. Aiming at identifying the sources, the report is compared with works on Carthusian origins written before the author’s departure from Italy.

Abstract
This article is a contribution to the study of the sources of the Povest’ strašna by Maximus the Greek. The investigation of the written sources of the second narrative can now be extended to include its report of the foundation of the Carthusian order.
