In the last years, the idea of the right to the city, formulated almost 50 years ago by the sociologist Henri Lefebvre, has been the subject of vigorously renewed interest in the social sciences, in the action of social movements, in the political-institutional debate. The article reconstructs the genesis of the right to the city, highlighting as this notion is an expression of criticism of the Fordist urbanism. In the second part, the article examines the recuperation of the right to the city in the contemporary urban debate.
