The aim of this paper is to analyse the European Union official publications on biodiversity from a discursive perspective. We point out that this discourse may combine a multiple range of points of view while keeping the utterance restrictions and the writing routines intact. Based on a praxeological outlook on knowledge transmission, the European discourse on biodiversity combines three sorts of communicative registers: popular scientific, didactic and procedural discourses. Focusing on the argumentation and discourse analysis approach, we propose the hypothesis that the illocutive force of scientific and institutional discourse is expected to change both mentality and behaviour of the interpreters, as well as providing the rules of procedure with regard to both encoding and decoding.
