This article aims at studying lexical innovations in the Slavic works of Maximus the Greek. As is known, Maximus the Greek confuted astrology on the basis of his knowledge of the contemporary Western debate on the subject. Thus, he modelled his Slovo protivu tščaščichsja zvezdozreniem predricati o buduščich i o samovlastii čelovekom (1522-1523) on Girolamo Savonarola’s Trattato contra gli astrologi (1497). A recent study on the quotations from the Prophets found in both the Slovo and the Trattato has established that Maximus the Greek derived the biblical loci Isa 47,10.(12.)13-14 and Jer 10,2 directly from the Trattato (not from Slavic liturgical books), translating them into Slavic from vernacular Italian. His translation naturally diverges from the existing Slavic translation. Among other things, it contains some lexical innovations, in particular Church Slavonic хѹдожьство, съблюдати (съблюсти) and възвѣщати (възвѣстити).
