In this contribution, I present some preliminary results of my ongoing investigation into money lending practices in Ur III Babylonia. More specifically, I offer a discussion of the še ur5-ra system of institutional loans of barley, which were granted to state dependents in the form of advances, usually interest-free, to be returned to the central administration. Here, I focus in particular on the še ur5-ra loans from the Ĝirsu- Lagaš province dating between years 12 and 39 of Šulgi. Besides, the full edition of eleven previously unpublished cuneiform tablets kept in the British Museum and in the de Liagre Böhl is provided.
