Geografia e politica : alle origini della nuova Unione Europea.

The Maastricht treaty extends the scope of the European Union to areas previously reserved for exclusive State competence, sectors symbolizing the very expression of sovereignty such as currency,foreign policy and defense. However,the treaty did not create an european federal State. Instead,it promotes a mixed international union of integration and cooperation. The importance of the localization of the European Union's institutions is not only a political issue,but also a geographical one : the transposition in the space of a political decision is a geographical factor. When a site is identified where to establish an international organization,this can only change in relation to the tertiary and quaternary activities that in this same site will be located for the advantages given by being close to the international management offices.
