The volume offers a historical-constitutional reconstruction of the process of evolution of the British form of government through the physiognomy of its "prime ministers". A phase that spans around three hundred years and was articulated through fifty-five Prime Ministers, starting with whig Robert Walpole up to the current Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the promoter of Brexit. Political leaders that took turns in the office of Prime Minister have contributed to a system without a written constitution and gave their personal contribution to the affirmation of the political constitution. Unprecedented in the Italian panorama, this work is not however conceived as a simple collection of biographies. In fact, while not neglecting the personal and political events in which individual Prime Ministers have been protagonists in relations with the monarchy and Parliament, the discussion develops an investigation into the contributions made by each premier to the organization of the British State and its transformations . Opened by the introduction of Angus Hawkins, an authoritative Oxford historian of UK government institutions and dedicated to the memory of George W. Jones (Emeritus Professor of Government in the London School of Economics and Political Science).
