This research studies the territorial (demographic and economic) processes of the three EU "capitals" and how they were influenced by the presence of the community institutions during the years of the post-industrial transition (80s and 90s). If in Strasbourg this presence was alive because it was publicized at the level of urban marketing, in Brussels it translated into transmutation of urban morphology due to the multiplication of tertiary activities and the demand for new offices. Here it also manifests itself with the phenomenon of "facadisme" : a particular urbanism of gentrification. An international or global city offers many advantages to citizens, but it is also under abuse caused by the multitude of temporary visitors, who consume the city but don't live it (going there to use services and on business too).

Abstract
This research studies the territorial (demographic and economic) processes of the three EU "capitals" and how they were influenced by the presence of the community institutions during the years of the post-industrial transition (80s and 90s). If in Strasbourg this presence was alive because it was publicized at the level of urban marketing, in Brussels it translated into transmutation of urban morphology due to the multiplication of tertiary activities and the demand for new offices. Here it also manifests itself with the phenomenon of "facadisme" : a particular urbanism of gentrification. An international or global city offers many advantages to citizens, but it is also under abuse caused by the multitude of temporary visitors, who consume the city but don't live it (going there to use services and on business too).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
