The essay reconstructs the events of the lordship of the canons of Volterra in Villa-magna through the analysis of the depositions of the witnesses summoned by Bishop Pagano Pannocchieschi in March 1231. It was, specifically, a co-signoria, or rather a domination in which the jurisdictional prerogatives were divided between the Chapter of the cathedral and the lords of Montignoso.
