University autonomy must be pursued not as something absolute, but as something harmonious within a general framework that allows each University to also combine its mission of research, teaching and dissemination in relation to the needs of the territory. Unlike school, in Italy there's no real public University policy related to its role in education and production of knowledge. The essay addresses the link between autonomy and evaluation in relation to the concepts of "merit" and "meritocracy".

Abstract
University autonomy must be pursued not as something absolute, but as something harmonious within a general framework that allows each University to also combine its mission of research, teaching and dissemination in relation to the needs of the territory. Unlike school, in Italy there's no real public University policy related to its role in education and production of knowledge. The essay addresses the link between autonomy and evaluation in relation to the concepts of "merit" and "meritocracy".I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
