Abstract
In this article, my aim is to compare the treatment of melancholy in Beckett’s Endgame with Benjamin’s theses on the nature of the tragic. This allows me to evaluate to what extent Endgame can be seen as an allegory, to depict the emergence of melancholy in a tragic context, and to discuss the role that the laughter linked to the figure of Democritus plays in the modern drama.File in questo prodotto:
