The essay reflects on the weight of the territorial seigneuries of three Tuscan bishoprics (Volterra, Pisa and Siena) during the late Middle Ages. By comparing the three diocesan realities, which differed in demography, economy and relations between city and episcopal institution, an attempt is made to draw a profile of the powers of command and of the lordly prerogatives that those bishops maintained at the end of the Middle Ages, as well as to quantify their economic performance.

Abstract
The essay reflects on the weight of the territorial seigneuries of three Tuscan bishoprics (Volterra, Pisa and Siena) during the late Middle Ages. By comparing the three diocesan realities, which differed in demography, economy and relations between city and episcopal institution, an attempt is made to draw a profile of the powers of command and of the lordly prerogatives that those bishops maintained at the end of the Middle Ages, as well as to quantify their economic performance.File in questo prodotto:
