Calliphoridae flies are vectors of pathogenic microorganisms and lay eggs on fresh and cured meat, representing, therefore, a threat to the food industry. In this paper, the essential oil extracted from Origanum vulgare L. was tested for its insecticidal activity against adults and eggs and its deterrence to the oviposition of Calliphora vomitoria (Linnaeus, 1758) (Diptera: Calliphoridae). The results showed that oregano essential oil is effective with a dose-dependent activity. The application by EO-charged mist in meat processing factories is, hence, to be encouraged.

Abstract
Calliphoridae flies are vectors of pathogenic microorganisms and lay eggs on fresh and cured meat, representing, therefore, a threat to the food industry. In this paper, the essential oil extracted from Origanum vulgare L. was tested for its insecticidal activity against adults and eggs and its deterrence to the oviposition of Calliphora vomitoria (Linnaeus, 1758) (Diptera: Calliphoridae). The results showed that oregano essential oil is effective with a dose-dependent activity. The application by EO-charged mist in meat processing factories is, hence, to be encouraged.File in questo prodotto:
