The essay analyzes the architecture of the Lucchese cathedral starting from the Gothic re-founding up to the reformulation of the interior concluded in the late sixteenth century. To the choices of the fourteenth-century protomagistri, still pursued throughout the following century, we owe the plant of the current factory. Matteo Civitali before, in the last three decades of the fifteenth century, and Giorgio Vasari after, since 1569, complete the structure of the cathedral with a florilegium of sculpted architecture conceived under the sign of the unity of the arts that transform the temple in the Holy Jerusalem of Lucca.
