The Tuscan lenition process known as 'gorgia' is here investigated within the OT framework. The 'gorgia toscana' consists of a consonant weakening, in particular of the spirantization of a stop consonant, occurring in onset position of the syllable. The relevance of OT constraints emerges from the empirical data. An account of the phenomenon is given following the special methodological and theoretical set of constraints proposed by OTSoft. A critical survey of Kirchner's proposal of the 'gorgia' is also presented.

Abstract
The Tuscan lenition process known as 'gorgia' is here investigated within the OT framework. The 'gorgia toscana' consists of a consonant weakening, in particular of the spirantization of a stop consonant, occurring in onset position of the syllable. The relevance of OT constraints emerges from the empirical data. An account of the phenomenon is given following the special methodological and theoretical set of constraints proposed by OTSoft. A critical survey of Kirchner's proposal of the 'gorgia' is also presented.File in questo prodotto:
