In the early years of the Fourteenth Century, the Trenta urbanized in Lucca as apothecaries and doctors. Subsequently they devoted themselves to trading, in particular, of silk products, and exercised finance at a European level, achieving great wealth at the beginning of the Fifteenth century. During this Century, and the following centuries, the Trenta were part of the major city elites, holding political and diplomatic positions in Europe. A farsighted and careful marriage policy, great wealth and political and business ability led the Trenta to forge important relationships with members of the European upper classes. They were one of the key families of the Lucca oligarchy through the centuries, up to the first half of the Nineteenth Century.

Nei primi anni del Trecento i Trenta si inurbarono a Lucca come speziali e medici. Successivamente si dedicarono alla mercatura, in particolare dei prodotti di seta, ed esercitarono la finanza a livello europeo conseguendo una grande ricchezza agli inizi del Quattrocento. Nel corso di questo secolo, e poi dei successivi, i Trenta fecero parte delle maggiori élites cittadine svolgendo incarichi politichi e diplomatici in Europa. Una lungimirante e attenta politica matrimoniale, le grandi ricchezze e un’abilità politica e negli affari portarono i Trenta a stringere importanti relazioni con esponenti degli alti ceti europei. Furono una tra le famiglie-cardine dell’oligarchia lucchese attraverso i secoli, fino alla prima metà dell’Ottocento.
