Trenta

Based on largely unpublished documentation, this study reconstructs the history of the Lucchese family of the Trenta, starting from the early 14th Century, when they became urban, up to the early 16th Century. The Trenta were characterized by a very large family structure, comparable to a noble coterie, and by a shrewd marriage policy. Present on the main European trading squares, they reached a high level of wealth and were also important clients of works of art. The ability in business as well as in city political relations and with members of the upper classes in Europe made him one of the key families of the Lucca oligarchy over the Centuries.

Fondato su una documentazione in gran parte inedita questo studio ricostruisce la storia del casato lucchese dei Trenta, a partire dagli inizi del XIV secolo, quando si inurbarono, fino ai primi del Cinquecento. I Trenta furono caratterizzati da una struttura familiare molto ampia, paragonabile a una consorteria nobiliare, e da un'accorta politica matrimoniale. Presenti sulle principali piazze mercantili europee raggiunsero un alto livello di ricchezza e furono anche importanti committenti di opere d'arte. Inoltre, l'abilità negli affari come nelle relazioni politiche cittadine e con esponenti degli alti ceti in Europa ne fecero una tra le famiglie-cardine dell’oligarchia lucchese nel corso dei secoli.
