Abstract

This paper presents a description and an analysis of predicative possession in Latin in the light of a theoretical framework that foregrounds the dual character of such a linguistic domain, with consequences on the general (i.e. typological) and the theoretical plane. Focus is then on a wide-angle view of the evolution of possessive structures among languages, with a specific, new interpretation of predicative possession constructions in the diachrony of Indo-European.
