This research provides an over view of globalization and summarizes its influence on African political affairs, evaluating the political situation of the region and explaining it by relating it to the rise of neo-liberism and imposed structural adjustments programs by the World Bank or IMF. Secondly, it studies the political changes within ECOWAS, discussing the links between globalization and the 1990's economical and political changes. The focus is to identify variables which the author considers to be fundamental in the 1990's transitional period. These variables in West Africa are : constitutions,political parties,civil societies,electoral systems and mass media.
