The present study intends to collect and analyse the patchy data at our disposal for reconstructing the monetary circulation before Commagene was annexed for the first time to the Roman Empire (17 CE). In particular, I will focus on the question of the beginning of civic issues and of their relation with the royal coinage within the wider debate on sovereignty and coinage. From this brief examination it should be apparent how much the case of Commagene can benefit from the advance of historical and numismatic research on this subject and how much, in return, it can profitably contribute to the debate.

Abstract
The present study intends to collect and analyse the patchy data at our disposal for reconstructing the monetary circulation before Commagene was annexed for the first time to the Roman Empire (17 CE). In particular, I will focus on the question of the beginning of civic issues and of their relation with the royal coinage within the wider debate on sovereignty and coinage. From this brief examination it should be apparent how much the case of Commagene can benefit from the advance of historical and numismatic research on this subject and how much, in return, it can profitably contribute to the debate.File in questo prodotto:
