Diderot tra natura e civiltà: trama di un’inevitabile questione politica

First of all, the état de nature is for Diderot a moral issue, especially during the first half of his philosophical activity. In this paper we try to highlight the political consequences of his conception of the state of nature until his last revolutionary instances, by considering the influence of Rousseau and utopian literature in opposition to the early Locke’s influence. Through some specific references we try to drawing an intellectual path of Diderot to claryfying the intermediate role of his interpretation of the état de nature, between Rousseau and Hobbes’ theories, in his political thougth.
