Un «mundo entrevisto e emendado e reescrito»: sulle varianti in «Os passos em volta» di Herberto Helder

Although it is known that the process of self-correction in Herberto Helder had assumed a role of ‘categorical imperative’ of his poetic making, and that of the 12 editions of Os passos em volta, the first five (1963, 1964, 1970, 1980, 1985) show the greatest variations, there are few studies describing the movements of the Helderian rewritings. This paper takes up, expands and updates an analysis carried out years ago on the variants of two short stories included in Os passos em volta from the first to the last edition, in order to reflect on the spirit and value of the text of the Madeiran writer. The text is accompanied by an autograph letter from Herberto Helder which throws a little light on the organization of the book.

Benché sia noto che il processo di autocorrezione in Herberto Helder avesse assunto un ruolo di ‘imperativo categorico’ del suo fare poetico, e che delle 12 edizioni di Os passos em volta, le prime cinque (1963, 1964, 1970, 1980, 1985) presentano le maggiori variazioni, pochi sono gli studi che descrivano i movimenti delle riscritture helderiane. Il presente intervento riprende, amplia e aggiorna un’analisi condotta anni fa sulle varianti di due racconti inclusi in Os passos em volta dalla prima all’ultima edizione, per cercare di riflettere sullo spirito e sul valore del testo dello scrittore di Madeira. Correda il testo una lettera autografa di Herberto Helder che getta una piccola luce sull’organizzazione del libro.
