This paper presents a digital twin model plus the redesign of plant structure and a new fuzzy logic controller for the cooling system of the locomotive E402B. This work results from master thesis works [1] and [2]. The locomotive E402B cooling system is susceptible to malfunctions that may cause cooling tower engines overheat during operation. In collaboration with the Engineering of Trenitalia, we build a cooling tower digital twin model and use it to propose structural improvement for the cooling plant design and to redesign the control system. We use a fuzzy logic control scheme because it is widely used in the temperature control field and it is easily applicable in the present case.
