This contribution analyzes the use and the limits of blockchain technology applied to electoral processes. More specifically, the question examined is whether blockchain can satisfy electoral principles (universal, free, equal, secret suffrage) indicated in most agreements for the protection of human rights and which define the so-called European Helectoral Heritage. Standards for democratic electoral process have also been elaborated within the Council of Europe which specifically apply to e-voting and i-voting and, therefore, to blockchain. The conclusion of the analysis is that blockchain raises some critical issues that do not seem to satisfy, at present, those electoral principles
