The essay takes into consideration the theme of the dispositions of the human body, trying to reconstruct the perspective by which the authors of the Roman Canon Law have looked at it. Starting from the rule contained in the Digest, according to which Nemo est dominus membrorum suorum and after having carried out a precise terminological investigation of the term membrum, they have come to declare the invalidity of such dispositions. The result is a person-centered vision of this problem, which may perhaps offer suggestions of think even for today's jurist, despite the diversity of the social and value context in which he finds himself operating.

Abstract
