Starting from the decoration of a red-figured kylix from the Museo Archeologico Nazionale Tarquiniese, this study presents some new remarks on the recognition of the famous statues of Marsyas mentioned by Pliny and Pausanias. Based on this analysis, a more complex interpretation of the kylix decoration is proposed, currently catalogued as a komos scene associated with training athletes.
