This article deals with two Russian discourse words: tipa and takoj. The aim of the paper is to investigate and identify the functional similarities and the particular features of each one in their colloquial uses. In particular, we focus on two uses of tipa and takoj as an: a) approximator and b) quotative marker. The investigation is based on the spoken subcorpus of the Russian National Corpus.
