The principle of solidarity concerns the very foundation of international law as it is not only a legal principle, but also depends on ethical and religious grounds. It can be viewed from different perspectives in Eu law too. The Lisbon Treaty establishes three dimensions: solidarity among Member States, between member States and individuals, and between generations. In this chapter I will focus on how this principle works with regards to religious issues at the Eu institutional level, between the Eu and Churches and other established communities.
