Developing a theoretical framework, the chapter explores innovation in the healthcare sector from the perspective of the interlinked concepts of social innovation and co-production. Social innovation is defined as the innovation of social relations, especially in public decision making. The chapter focuses on the main method of co-production in the healthcare setting i.e. Experience-based Co-Design (EBCD) and its effects on equity and social justice. Adopting a gender perspective, the chapter analyses the concept of gendered social innovation (GSI) and explores its potential in defining co-production and the EBCD method as driving innovative transformation of existing power relations, misrecognition and reproduction of social inequality. The chapter thereby provides a critique of the concept of GSI and challenges to its application in a policy environment.

Abstract
The chapter thereby provides a critique of the concept of GSI and challenges to its application in a policy environment.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
