The article discusses the results of the 2019 fieldwork campaign at Hierapolis in Phrygia (Turkey), within the framework of the Italian Archaeological Mission at Hierapolis (MAIER). Research focused on the northern necropolis in this site, with particular reference to the three types of built structures: (1) stone seats attached to monumental tombs and to the bases for sarcophagi; (2) π-shaped exedrae with three rectilinear sides; (2) curvilinear exedrae or scholae. The paper argues that the shape and distribution of stone seats is a key element to the purpose of historical and topographical reconstruction.

Abstract
The article discusses the results of the 2019 fieldwork campaign at Hierapolis in Phrygia (Turkey), within the framework of the Italian Archaeological Mission at Hierapolis (MAIER). Research focused on the northern necropolis in this site, with particular reference to the three types of built structures: (1) stone seats attached to monumental tombs and to the bases for sarcophagi; (2) π-shaped exedrae with three rectilinear sides; (2) curvilinear exedrae or scholae. The paper argues that the shape and distribution of stone seats is a key element to the purpose of historical and topographical reconstruction.File in questo prodotto:
