Poesia greca nella (e della?) biblioteca Bodmer

Greek poetry plays a significant role within the heterogeneous corpus we usually call ‘Bodmer library’. Not only classical poetry (Homer and Menander), but also Christian Greek poetry and even Latin, transmitted respectively by P.Bodm. 29-37, the so-called Codex Visionum, and by the pluritextual Montserrat codex (P.Monts. Roca inv. 149- 167). Literary and linguistic analysis point out that P. Bodmer 29-37 is a coherent collection, to be dated to the midfourth century AD, sharing some features with the Montserrat codex. Namely, a strong interest in classical culture, as well as in rare words (attested only in Hesychius’ lexicon), some familiarity with Latin, the same attitude typological exegesis of Isaac’s sacrifice, the presence as dedicatee of a certain Dorotheus. It is therefore possible that the poems are internal products and that the ‘monastic’ community that composed them is to be identified with the community to which the ‘Bodmer library’ belonged.
