The paper deals with the highest civic magistrates (duoviri) attested in Luni during the Julio-Claudian age. By comparing epigraphic and archaeological sources, the investigation aims at understanding the position of the richest and most influential men within a city of northern Etruria and the unraveling of their relations with the imperial authorities in the first decades of the Principate. During that period, members of the imperial family and court were attracted to the city by the development of the marble economy - a fact that implied significant consequences on local politics and economy.

Abstract
The paper deals with the highest civic magistrates (duoviri) attested in Luni during the Julio-Claudian age. By comparing epigraphic and archaeological sources, the investigation aims at understanding the position of the richest and most influential men within a city of northern Etruria and the unraveling of their relations with the imperial authorities in the first decades of the Principate. During that period, members of the imperial family and court were attracted to the city by the development of the marble economy - a fact that implied significant consequences on local politics and economy.File in questo prodotto:
